Still Life Workshop with Emphasis on Design with John Kilroy

Back by popular demand!

Still Life Workshop with Emphasis on Design

December 10, 2011
10:00 to 5:00
80.00

This workshop will take you through the process of creating a still life with intention, from the beginning to end.  Do you know why things work in a set-up and why they don’t.  Do you consider borders, tangents, placement, readability, focus, space, color harmony, lighting, etc.   Don't just put something up there and expect a masterpiece.  Design is more than “don't stick it in the middle.”

Decisions on the intention/the idea when creating a still life painting.  The happened upon, the contrived, traditional vs. modern, vignettes or edge to edge paintings.  What are the underpinnings of what makes a good painting—still life or not.

Picture making is a lost art and its value is scarcely understood today.  This workshop will give methods to arrive at concrete discernment, clear perception and critical thinking which hopefully leads the artist to make informed decisions about their art.

Leave your preconceptions at home, the only requirement for this workshop is a desire to learn. Plan on a working lunch.

Everyone loves to painting outdoor, but very few folks know what makes a good or better yet a great landscape painting.
Anyone can paint outdoor but are you getting the result you are looking for....

This Workshop will focus on the fundamentals of outdoor painting, traditional landscape composition and efficient painting procedures which allow the artist to capture light, color, shape, value, atmospheric perspective and textural control necessary to create well organized, "readable "plein air paintings.
Plenty of individual attention will be given to each student.

Do you know what a good landscape painting is?
Do you know how to get the color harmony of the day?
What makes a good landscape design?
Who are the great landscape artists to study?

Outdoor landscape painting is not new, but I can tell you from experience, that 20 years ago very few artists in this area were painting outdoors.
There were no painting groups, plein air workshops, outdoor paints, this phenomenon came to light in this particular area due to marketing.

Directions: From Route 3, Head east on MA-228 N/Hingham St, cross Route 53 and continue to follow MA-228 N,
in about 4 1/2 miles, Route 228/Main Street turns right, continue to follow, pass the Hingham Fire Station,
take a left on to Main Street at the Dependable Cleaners, pass Atlantic Bagel (great place to get breakfast), continue down the hill, follow into Hingham Square, pass Old Ship Meeting House and Loring Theatre,
take a right on to South Street, Brewed Awakening is on the left, follow about 500 feet, slight right on to North Street, follow to the harbor, Stars on Hingham Harbor on left, turn left on to Summer Street/Route 3A, you will see The Hingham Bathing Beach on the right, pull into parking lot.
